Preppy K / Kindergarten: School Readiness You Can Count On
Preppy K / Kindergarten Program: 4.5 to 6 Year olds
Half, Extended and Full Day Kindergarten Available
The goal of our Preppy K/Kindergarten Program is to align with the school district so that our students can easily transition into elementary school, but provide a small group (10-12 children) experience that allows the children the opportunity to actively engage in their learning. The Kindergarten program follows the Utah Core Curriculum and district goals/objectives and enhances each lesson with hands on experiences inside and outside of the classroom. The Kindergarten classroom can often be found out in the community with visits to the library monthly for library skills, computer skills, basic reading/writing and research. We have a unit on money where our students not only learn to recognize the value of each coin/dollar but also visit the bank to see the vault and deposits but then proceed to follow the money through town via city bus. We have a lesson on how things work in which we visit the recycle center and choose our own machine (bike, clock, washer) and then get to bring it back to the school to assemble/disassemble and explore how it works. These are just a few of the many examples of the hands on learning that our small classroom allows.
We go outside in RAIN, SNOW, SUN or otherwise. Hiking, biking, snow shoeing, and sledding are regular activities so it is important to dress for whatever the day might offer. We also offer extra activities like learn to skate, cross country skiing and karate.
All of our classrooms teach Spanish, Sign language, Yoga, Cultural Studies, Zoophonics, Music, Art and more. Each teacher puts together a lesson plan for their classroom along with a calendar and newsletter summarizing what your child will be doing every day. We also offer opportunities for families to get involved as much or as little as you choose. We understand that some jobs are much less flexible than others and will assist those that want to be involved but can’t by finding fun opportunities and lots of information so that you are always an integral part of our program.
Parent/teacher conferences are held 2-3 times per year along with daily opportunities to converse and get to know our staff. The Kindergarten program also does standardized DIBELS testing, Developmental Milestone and Kindergarten assessments. We work closely with specialists in the area and early intervention when needed. We strive to make Creekside Kids a warm, inviting family environment that fosters open and honest communication. We believe it takes a village and are honored to be a part of your family.
Our students and staff are actively engaged and interacting all day long. We don’t use TV, movies or video games but instead offer hands on interaction and lessons that will last a lifetime.
We encourage you to come and visit, we’d love to tell you more about our wonderful Kindergarten Program and have you see firsthand, what we are all about. Our students and their parents are our family and we’d love for you to be a part of it
