Two’s and Three’s
Two’s and Three’s
Our two’s and three’s program offers a fun, hands on and interactive learning environment. Toddler education is a foundational stage of learning that focuses on stimulating a child’s development in key areas such as cognitive, motor, language, and social-emotional skills. At this age (typically 2 to 3 years), children are highly receptive to their environment and begin developing crucial skills that will lay the groundwork for future learning. Here are a few key principles and approaches for our toddler education:
Language Development:
- Talking and Reading: Regularly engaging with your toddler through conversation, reading books, singing songs, and asking questions helps build their vocabulary and understanding of language.
- Narrating Activities: Describe what you are doing during daily activities (e.g., “I’m putting your shoes on now”) to help them connect words with actions.
Social-Emotional Development:
- Modeling Behavior: Toddlers learn by watching adults and peers, so demonstrating positive social behaviors like sharing, taking turns, and expressing emotions helps them internalize these actions.
- Emotion Recognition: Encourage your toddler to identify and express feelings by using words such as happy, sad, or angry, and recognizing emotions in others.
Motor Skills:
- Fine Motor Skills: Provide opportunities for activities that involve hand-eye coordination, such as stacking blocks, drawing, or manipulating small objects.
- Gross Motor Skills: Encourage activities like running, jumping, climbing, or dancing to help develop coordination and muscle strength.
Cognitive Development:
- Problem-Solving Activities: Toddlers can benefit from simple puzzles, sorting games, and activities that encourage exploration and experimentation.
- Cause and Effect: Activities like filling and dumping or playing with simple toys that make noise when pressed, help toddlers understand cause and effect.
Routine and Structure:
- Consistent Routines: Establishing regular routines for meals, naps, and playtime creates a sense of security and helps toddlers understand the concept of time and predictability.
- Choice and Independence: Allowing toddlers to make simple choices (like picking a snack or a toy) fosters decision-making skills and promotes a sense of independence.
Sensory Exploration:
- Hands-On Activities: Engage toddlers in activities that stimulate their senses, such as playing with water, sand, textured toys, or different food items. This encourages curiosity and exploration.
Creative Play:
- Imaginative Play: Encourage role-playing, pretend games, and using toys in creative ways. This fosters creativity and helps with emotional development by allowing toddlers to explore different roles and scenarios.
Positive Reinforcement:
- Praise and Encouragement: Acknowledge effort, not just outcomes. Positive reinforcement helps build confidence and motivates toddlers to keep trying new things.
Our goal is to provide a supportive, nurturing environment that encourages curiosity and exploration while laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Each child develops at their own pace, so it’s important to be patient and responsive to their individual needs and interests. Our classrooms offer a positive and individualized environment that will help your toddler become confident, secure, a part of our community and develop a love for learning.
All of our classrooms teach Spanish, Sign language, Yoga, Cultural Studies, Zoo-phonics, Music, Art and more. Each teacher puts together a lesson plan for their classroom along with a calendar and newsletter summarizing what your child will be doing every day. We also offer opportunities for families to get involved as much or as little as you choose. We understand that some jobs are much less flexible than others and will assist those that want to be involved but can’t by finding fun opportunities and lots of information so that you are always an integral part of our program.
Parent/teacher conferences are held throughout the year along with daily opportunities to converse and get to know our staff. We work closely with specialists in the area and early intervention when needed. We strive to make Creekside Kids a warm, inviting family environment that fosters open and honest communication. We believe it takes a village and are honored to be a part of your family.
Our students and staff are actively engaged and interacting all day long. We don’t use TV, movies or video games but instead offer hands on interaction and lessons that will last a lifetime.
We encourage you to come and visit, we’d love to show you our school.
